Starbucks Just Revolutionized How Deaf People Order At The Drive-Thru

A drive-thru in itself is supposed to be a helpful accommodation that enhances the customer experience. So in the spirit of good customer service, a drive-thru that enhances the deaf community’s experience is a smart move by this Starbucks.

A video posted by Rebecca King on Facebook shows a Florida Starbucks that is equipped to take orders in American Sign Language.

As King rolls up to the drive-thru, you see a normal ordering screen. After a few seconds of silence, a Starbucks employee pops up on the screen, ready to take the customer’s order in sign language.

According to Action News Jax, barista Katie Wyble was the one on the screen and has communicated through sign language since preschool.

In a pretty exciting use of technology, this Starbucks could forever change the way drive-thrus are operated.
