The ‘Roo — Slater’s 50/50 Debuts a Half-Bacon, Half-Kangaroo Burger

Southern California-based burger chain Slater’s 50/50 seems to be poised on creating items that get the web talking.

From their signature 50% ground beef, 50% ground bacon patty, their Orange Chicken Burger, to their notoriously deadly 100% ground bacon burger, the chain has a knack for walking the line between mouth watering and headline worthy.

Next up for the expanding chain? The ‘Roo, a burger made of 50% ground kangaroo and 50% ground bacon topped with melted brie, thick cut bacon, huckleberry ketchup, crushed macadamia ricotta on a bed of baby greens, radish slices and sandwiched by a honey wheat bun.

The burger will sit on the menu as their burger of the month for September. Let us know what you think of it in the comments if you get a chance to try it.

    Had it for lunch and it was excellent! Of course, we are not new to enjoying a bit of ‘roo when the opportunity presents itself. More protein than beef, far more lean, and super tasty. I recommend it!
    *Note – for those expecting a gamy meat, this is not one of them. If anything, the huckleberry slightly overwhelmed the flavor of the meat. Still well worth the drive for us.

    Speaking of kangaroo meat, I lived in Perth & Darwin for a couple years…. the supermarkets have a kangaroo section of the meats right in between beef, pork, and chicken. Reminds me of a funny employment ad I saw while there – “Kangaroo boners needed….blah, blah, … experience in boning kangaroos required.”
