Walmart’s Drone Delivery Expands To More Locations
Walmart has come a long way since launching the nation’s first drone delivery back in 2021. The retailer has just announced a major expansion of its partnership with Wing, a division of Google that specializes in residential drone delivery.
The companies partnered back in 2023, starting with just two Walmart stores in Dallas, and now will expand to an additional 150 locations, with plans for 270 locations by 2027. The drone delivery network will stretch from Los Angeles to Miami.
Specific cities include Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with other cities to follow soon after. Walmart and Wing previously announced plans to expand to Houston, Orlando, Tampa, and Charlotte.
“Drone delivery plays an important role in our ability to deliver what customers want, exactly when they want it. Whether it’s a last-minute ingredient for dinner, a must-have charger for a phone, or a late-night essential for a busy family, the strong adoption we’ve seen confirms that this is the future of convenience,” said Greg Cathey, Senior Vice President of Digital Fulfillment Transformation at Walmart. “By expanding drone delivery to new major metro areas, we are helping more customers solve for their last-minute needs faster than ever before.”
Drone delivery is free for Walmart+ members and $19.99 for non-members. Deliveries can arrive as quickly as 30 minutes, though there are weight and size restrictions.
