Mochi x Donut Hybrid Comes to Costa Mesa, California

As the Cronut exemplified, donuts can do no wrong. Whether it’s made into a croissant hybrid or triple deep-fried at your local county fair, donuts have that certain je ne sais quoi that makes them forever relevant. Sorry, cupcakes, you’re out.

Back in April, Mochi Cream was spotted selling Mochido (Mochi Donuts) at a Japanese grocery store in Torrance, California. Alas! That’s a little less than an hour away from our Foodbeast offices and hardly close enough to make grabbing a Mochi Donut with our morning coffee a regular thing.

Luckily, the OC Weekly spotted the chewy treats being sold at a shop inside Mitsuwa Marketplace in Costa Mesa, California. The donut x mochi hybrids are simply rings of chewy rice cake filled with various creams and covered in glaze, resulting in mochi innocuously disguised as fried dough. This particular location offers flavors such as strawberry shortcake, cafe au lait, double mango and raspberry custard.

Excuse us, while we head over and hoard all of these beauts for ourselves.
