Starbucks Adds Protein Boost To New Lattes And Cold Foam Flavors

Starbucks is poised to become your new hub for a protein boost starting September 29. The company is adding protein-boosted lattes and cold foams to its menu that deliver 15 to 36 grams of protein per 16-ounce beverage (its grande size).

“As we continue to get back to Starbucks, we’re focused on modernizing our menu with innovative, relevant, and hype-worthy products that will resonate with our customers,” said Tressie Lieberman, Starbucks’ global chief brand officer.

The new additions come on the heels of a growing interest in protein consumption. According to the 2025 IFIC Food & Health Survey, 70% of Americans admit to wanting to consume more protein. The trend has fueled innovations like protein water, protein tea, and advances in plant-protein.

The new Starbucks Protein Cold Foams and Lattes will be available with sugar-free and unsweetened options. The protein cold foam adds 15 grams of protein per grande to any cold coffee, tea or Refreshers.

To clarify, Starbucks has not confirmed the flavors for the Protein Lattes yet. However, the Protein Cold Foam flavors have been confirmed: banana (a new flavor), vanilla, sugar-free vanilla, chocolate, matcha, salted caramel, brown sugar, and plain Protein Cold Foam. Seasonal options will also include pumpkin and pecan.

In July, Starbucks started testing protein beverages through the Starting 5 innovation program—a program that pilots products in five coffeehouses and gathers feedback from baristas and customers before expanding further. Protein Cold Foams are the first breakthrough innovation developed and tested with the Starting 5 approach.

Starbucks announced on Tuesday that beginning September 29, all Starbucks coffeehouses in the U.S. and Canada will offer Protein Cold Foam, alongside a new line of Protein Lattes.
