Pizza Hut is kicking off the summer with the launch of Hut Originals, a new platform dedicated to the chain’s most iconic menu items and the fans who grew up with them.

To get things started, Pizza Hut is bringing back one of its most beloved programs: BOOK IT! Summer of Stories.

The reading initiative first launched in 1984, rewarding kids with free pizza for hitting reading goals. This summer, parents of children in pre-K through sixth grade can relive the experience by downloading the BOOK IT! mobile app and setting monthly reading goals for their kids.

Once children complete those goals, parents can verify their progress in the app and unlock a free Personal Pan Pizza from participating Pizza Hut locations. The BOOK IT! app is available through the App Store and Google Play.

Pizza Hut is also teaming up with General Mills and Box Tops for Education to help families support local schools while participating in the program.

Families can earn Box Tops by scanning receipts from Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! Family Meal, which includes one medium one-topping pizza and two one-topping Personal Pan Pizzas for $14.99. Pizza Hut also directs a portion of every Family Meal purchase toward supporting the BOOK IT! program.

The return of BOOK IT! continues Pizza Hut’s recent embrace of nostalgia. Earlier this year, the chain announced the return of its Classic Retro restaurant design at select locations, with plans to make the throwback look a permanent part of the brand.

That move aligns with a broader trend highlighted in Collider Lab’s 2026 Food Trends Report, which notes growing consumer interest in nostalgic foods, flavors, and experiences that offer familiarity and comfort.

Families interested in participating can learn more at bookitprogram.com.
