Celebrity Chef And Food Network Star Anne Burrell Dies At 55

Celebrity Chef Anne Burrell—known for her signature spiky hair, culinary talent, and longtime role as host of Worst Cooks in America—tragically passed away on Tuesday, June 17, at the age of 55. She is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, her three children (Nicolas, Amelia, and Isabella), her mother, her brother, and her sister.
Her family shared a heartfelt statement with People, remembering her not just for her public legacy but for the personal joy she brought into their lives. “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” they wrote. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
Born in September of 1969, Burrell chased her culinary passions through adolescence until winding up at the Culinary Institute of America, where she graduated in 1996.
By the new millenia, Burrell returned to her alma mater to teach the new generations of young chefs her culinary ways. Hanging up her teaching apron, she moved onto TV, first appearing in Iron Chef America. Once she established a name for herself, Burrell soon developed her own television series, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, which ran for nine seasons and earned her a collection of awards, including an Emmy.
While the world may remember her for her cooking expertise, some will always remember Burrell through her philanthropic efforts. The generous chef spent countless hours working alongside City Harvest’s Food Council, while also donating time and money to the Garden of Dreams Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
“I feel so lucky to be able to share my true passion in life with others,” Burrell was quoted numerous times when asked about her philanthropy.
May Chef Burrell rest in peace. We send our love to her friends and family affected by this tragedy.
