Del Taco Beefin’ With Taco Bell Via Facebook

Just moments ago, someone from Del Taco’s social media team decided to upload a sly little picture that ultimately tells Taco Bell to shut their pie hole. It was a sly, subtle mockery, a nose in the air to the big boy, a simple message with a chip-on-the-shoulder tone.

The two American-style Mexican Fast Food chains have long kept distinct fan and customer groups, often times of the dedicated and defensive persuasion. For every group of friends who live in an area where both Del Taco and Taco Bell exists, it’s often a split decision which restaurant to drive thru after a night of drinking, or which has the better taco.

The Beef — Here’s How Del Taco Essentially Told Taco Bell to Shut Their Mouths

This time, we get to see the two duke it out in public. Roughly three hours ago, the stage was set when Taco Bell’s Facebook team uploaded a seemingly harmless screencap of their iPhone’s sound icon, which they believe resembles their own bell logo. Here’s a look:

The post by Taco Bell is an obvious “random thought” type musing, something to engage their audience, something relatable — just a decent exercise in social media upkeep.

The fun starts when roughly three hours later, Del Taco’s Facebook team uploads a similar screen cap, but with the audio on the iPhone set to “silent,” and an image quote reading “We couldn’t agree more.”

The image is curious, a double entendre that literally calls for the silence and the end of Taco Bell. Or something like that. Here’s a look at Del Taco’s musings:

Both statuses have garnered thousands of interactions, with Taco Bell’s upload garnering over 12,000 Likes on Facebook as of this posting, with Del Taco’s upload attracting over 1,000 Likes within the first hour of being live.

To put armies into perspective, Del Taco’s Facebook Fan Page is followed by 330,000+ fans, while Taco Bell has an audience of close to 8.5 million. By sheer numbers, Taco Bell would win this war, but from the safety of our computer screens, this is a fun little war just ready to bubble over.

What’s the only thing we can learn from this initial altercation? That both Taco Bell and Del Taco social media teams have iPhones.

Are you team Taco Bell? Or team Del Taco?
