Sonic’s New Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog Combines Everything Great About Summer

It wasn’t too long ago that all the cool Clydes and fly chicks were hanging at their local drive-ins sipping down soda pops to the cool sounds of summer. But while the drive-in’s ‘50s heyday has come and gone, the nostalgia certainly hasn’t.

For a limited time, starting July 1, Sonic is introducing two new 100% beef pretzel dogs: The Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog and the Original Pretzel Dog, as its answer to the “age-old” (?) summertime dilemma of hot dogs vs. pretzels.

“Summer without hot dogs and pretzels is like summer without baseball or fireworks. It’s just not right!” James O’Reilly, the chief marketing officer at Sonic Corp, said in a press release.

According to the release, the Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog will be topped with bacon and warm melted cheese sauce, while the Original will feature the same soft pretzel bun topped with mustard. Of course, no amount of baseball-inspired eats will ever bring back the bouffants, greased hair and leather jackets of American Graffiti, but a few good hours wasted at the drive-in with your buddies should feel close enough.

Both pretzel dogs will be available until August 11 at all participating Sonic Drive-In locations nationwide.
