Never Break Another Wine Glass with Stem Locks

Time and again, many a waiter has impressed me with his ability to stack half-empty trays upon trays upon cups upon trays and walk away without spilling a single drop, but hey, no one’s perfect. For those of us without spider-like speed and agility, veteran restaurateur Leonard Cohen has just developed Stem Locks, so you can rest assured knowing you won’t ever drop your diners’ wine glasses again (or have them dropped on you).

Inspired by one particularly messy New Year’s Eve, Cohen developed his product as a solution “for the unexpected.” As evidenced by Stem Lock’s promotional video, even the best-trained, quick-reflexed of servers can meet their untimely doom at the hands of just one mistimed chair scoot, resulting in panicked prima donna customers and angry bosses for days.

Made up of small plastic hooks which adhere to most standard serving trays, Stem Locks work by securing wine glasses to the trays themselves, and allow servers to tip trays in most any direction without the drinks falling over.

The most obvious problem so far is the Stem Locks don’t actually lock, but rather slide snugly around the stems, essentially ruling out any crazy skateboarding tricks you were thinking about trying out, at least while on shift. But it looks promising nonetheless.

Stem Locks (patent pending) come in packs of five and are available for both wholesale and retail purchase in August.
