Lines wrapped around Costco locations nationwide recently for the release of its highly anticipated Kirkland Signature x Nike SB collaboration. People in attendance say the experience echoed the sneakerhead era’s heyday, when lines for limited-release kicks were a common occurrence. The popularity of SB Dunks in particular once rivaled that of Air Jordans. Well, this past Friday’s exciting release let those who lament those times relive them, if only for a day.

The news of the release arrived on the day of, limited to select locations in New York, California, and Oregon, and exclusive to Costco members on a first-come-first-serve basis. To top it off, the sneakers retailed for an affordable $134.99. Suffice it to say, it didn’t take long for lines to begin forming.

Instagram user and fervent sneakerhead dj_sneakerhead shared his experience, and based on the video, it definitely looked like the place to be. Hype aside, the release appeared to run pretty smoothly, which is to say, no fights or shoebox tug-o-wars broke out. People simply walked up and gave an employee their size, then were ushered towards a massive stack of boxes for pick-up. It’s unclear whether it was limited to one pair per person, because several people posted pictures of numerous boxes.

Based on the success of the release, Instagram user frugalseason has just broke the news that Costco will be restocking another round of Kirkland Signature SB Dunk lows and expanding their availability to additional locations. This time, however, sizes and quantities will be limited, and pairs will be limited to one per person, so if you missed out on the first release, make sure to keep your ear to ground for when Costco announces this one.

Question is, with such a huge response, will this be the first of many Kirkland Signature x Nike SB collaborations? Or maybe, it’ll inspire more spirited Nike SB releases? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
