Dr. Dre’s Newest Drop? A Solar-Powered Farmers Market On Wheels

Prosperity Market, a Black woman-owned mobile farmers market that operates in Los Angeles, has just received a major cosign from legendary music producer Dr. Dre.

The company, which was launched by Carmen Dianne and Kara Still in 2021, serves as a platform for black farmers, food producers, and chefs, offering a curated farmers market experience that’s affordable and easily accessible. It was created as a way to address food insecurity in low-income neighborhoods.

Now, Dianne and Still have caught the attention of Dr. Dre, who has invested in the construction of two solar-powered, electronic mobile trailers for the company, scheduled to launch sometime in 2026. The two new trailers will expand their fleet to three in total, allowing Prosperity Market to cover more of Los Angeles.

According to an Instagram post shared by the owners, they received an email titled “Interest from Dr. Dre.” Unsurprisingly, they didn’t believe it was real at first—until they opened it.

The post also offers an inside peek at the sleek, silver-colored mobile trailers, which will feature an actual farmer’s market in the rear with two aisles stocked with produce, canned goods, and more. A kitchen is in the front that chefs and food entrepreneurs can rent out, allowing it to be a food truck with a rotating menu.

“Dr. Dre is a legend, and knows excellence when he sees it, so for him to see it in us is affirming and inspiring,” said Dianne said in a press release. “We’ve been building Prosperity Market since 2020, and everything we have built over the last four years has been in service of our vision for the mobile trailers. His contribution will not only help Prosperity Market grow exponentially, but also all the businesses we work with and communities we serve.”

According to a Los Angeles Times article from 2024, around 40% of South LA residents live in a food desert. Having access to a mobile market that offers local produce and food products isn’t just an awesome and much-needed idea for food-insecure neighborhoods, but one that should be replicated everywhere. Dianne and Still plan to expand to other cities in the future.
