NYC Pizzeria Owner Takes Charge in ‘Clean Streets’ Movement, Installs 75 Trash Cans Near His Restaurants

Meet Sean Feeney, the type of hero the communities of Brooklyn always needed.

New York undoubtedly has a reputation as being a “dirty city,” but that didn’t stop the 43-year old finance bro-turned restaurateur of Fini Pizzeria to take a personal stock in implementing ways to provide a clean environment for his community in Williamsburg.

About six months after Fini Pizzeria’s opening in 2022, he polled his customers on what they’d like to see most improved in the neighborhood. The reception he received was overwhelming. A response rate of 94% from guests hoped for cleaner streets.

Soon after, Feeney committed to humbly purchasing five green trash cans, priced at $220 per bin, painting them with the motto “clean streets,” placing the cans outside and around Fini Pizzeria. This not only encouraged customers to properly dispose of their trash, but provided the neighborhood with more convenient resources to toss garbage.

The plan was successful. After noticing significant cleaner streets, Feeney bought five more trash cans, but after only four months, the city fined him with a letter for $4000. So, he met with the Department of Sanitation to advocate his cause.

Long story short, they tore up the tickets.

Feeney has officially launched what he calls his “Clean Streets” initiative, adding more cans to public areas in Williamsburg and downtown Brooklyn. There are now about 75 green trash cans all with Fini’s crown logo and “clean streets” tagline made available to the community.

Customers can now support the cause by purchasing a trash can from Fini Pizzeria’s menu for $208.

Fini Pizzeria is located at 305 Bedford Avenue, near South Second Street.
