Taco Bell’s Newest Taco Innovation Features A Blue Corn Tortilla Shell

Taco Bell has been in the news a lot as of late for what goes into their taco shells. They’ve done unconventional items like fried chicken, eggs, and even waffles in recent times. Their latest item, the Midnight Melt Taco, goes a little more traditional though, as it incorporates a 100% blue corn tortilla shell.

The Midnight Melt Taco appears to be the latest dollar menu test for Taco Bell, and features all of the typical ingredients of a Supreme Taco with a couple of twists. The 100% blue corn tortilla has a melted layer of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese. Otherwise, it’s got your standard ground beef, tomatoes, lettuce, shredded cheddar, and sour cream.

Fellow Foodbeast Elie Ayrouth and I both tried the new taco out at separate locations in Southern California. We both felt that the blue corn added a nice touch of flavor and crunch to the shell. The Monterey Jack does add a tangy note that makes it unique from the other tacos on the menu as well.

“I think this is one of the most real tacos that Taco Bell has ever put out,” Ayrouth said after trying it. “Each of these shells are going to look completely different, it looks like they’re pressed together before they’re fried. I hope that it goes national because of how real it is and how dope it is that Taco Bell is doing something like this.”

Speaking of trying this, there happens to only be a couple of days left in the Midnight Melt Taco’s test run. It’s available at the following 12 locations in Southern California through August 30th, according to Taco Bell representatives:
