Krispy Kreme Doing Away with KKK Wednesdays

A Krispy Kreme in the UK thought it was a great idea to have KKK Wednesday as part of its “Half Term Activities,” but it got shot down real quick.

Naturally, the KKK stood for “Krispy Kreme Klub.” I guess KKC wouldn’t have rolled off the tongue quite the same, so they spelled club with a “K” for added style points.

Obviously, their club could have been confused with another notorious club that shared the abbreviation. That “Klub” hasn’t exactly had a very friendly history in the United States.

They had their week pretty well planned out with their Funday Monday, Colouring Tuesday and even Face Painting Thursday, but Krispy Kreme Klub Wednesday was probably supposed to be the highlight of the week, being where club members can gather and discuss some doughy goodness.

CNBC reported that the doughnut chain apologized and their promotional post was taken down from Facebook.

Doubt the UK knows that it’s Black History Month here in the US and maybe they’re oblivious to the history of the Ku Klux Klan, but either way, their KKK meeting was scheduled at a super bad time.

Doughnut power.
