Running Italy Diary: Siena and San Gimignano

On Tuesday I went on a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano. Although Siena had some beautiful sights (take note of the picture), the Tuscan countryside in San Gimignano was one of the most breathtaking things I’ve ever seen.

I wasn’t in each city too long since it was just a day trip. Here are some pictures of that day and a few from after:

Italy never seizes to amaze me.

Siena

That is a pigeon fight going on. The birds here are intense, for real. I feel like I’ve been almost hit by one about 10 times already. They are way too friendly for comfort.

Sorry about the glare, but that’s a pig’s head. Just thought I’d add it for dramatic affect.

Chocolate croissant

Pesto

Mushroom tomato

This is the best…

…I can do on a point and shoot.

The first chicken fingers and wings I’ve seen in Italy <3

Roasted sage potatoes with chicken stuffed with sausage

The go-to American condiment — ketchup.

San Gimignano, pictures don’t do this place justice.

The best gelato I’ve had this whole trip. I don’t think anything can beat it. It was in the main square of San Gimignano.

The gelato was so good I forgot to take a picture before I started eating it. I got Nutella, of course, and strawberry. The Nutella flavor had chucks of Nutella in it along with whole pieces of hazelnuts. The strawberry was just a refreshing, smooth tasting gelato. Some people went back for seconds even though it was around $4 for a decent size, just to give you an idea of how good it was.

I just arrived in Sorrento today. It’s amazing. Totally different than other places I’ve seen in the country so far. I will also be visiting Capri and Pompeii this weekend too. Expect an update of southern Italy soon.
