Artist Reimagines Calder's Famous Sculptures As Food Mobiles

Carl Kleiner

Alexander Calder was a 20th century American sculptor who's best known for first constructing mobiles -- structures that have suspended objects balanced from wire or other material. Nowadays, Swedish artist Carl Kleiner has taken inspiration from Calder in his latest project -- food mobiles.

The modern artist is well-known for photographing everyday objects in offbeat settings, and unsurprisingly, he's also given these kinetic designs a quirky twist. Using wire as the base structure, Kleiner suspended a variety of eats in careful patterns -- from eggs to marshmallows -- to produce beautiful designs undoubtedly reminiscent of the late sculptor's. What's even more interesting are the shadows created when a spotlight is put on them.
