Canned pasta water has been announced by Eat Wasted, a sustainable pasta-making company known for producing pasta from bread waste.

Questions are being raised about whether it’s meant to be consumed as a beverage or used to enhance pasta dishes. A teaser image was posted by the brand alongside the caption, “T-7. it’s exactly what you think. don’t drain it yet,” which confirms that it is indeed pasta water while still leaving room for speculation.

Pasta Water is currently scheduled to be released on April Fool’s Day, so it could be part of a joke. However, even if that turns out to be the case, it could still find use in the kitchen.

Pasta water is often discarded without much thought, despite its versatility. It can be used to thicken sauces, improve bread and pizza dough, and even support plant growth, making it a commonly overlooked ingredient.

More details are expected to be revealed on April 1. Until then, a waitlist can be joined by those curious to learn more.
