Taco Bell Has No Idea How Much Steak To Put In Their Burritos

Back in 2008, we reported on Taco Bell‘s launch of a Triple Steak Burrito systemwide. The hook on that particular product was a flour tortilla packed heavy with fire-roasted salsa, reduced fat sour cream, real cheddar cheese, spanish rice and lots of carne asada steak. In fact, it was advertised to be three times the amount in your standard issue Steak Burrito Supreme.

Seemed rather badass at the time. In early 2011, Taco Bell launched a technically bigger burrito — The Quad Steak Burrito. The new hook? Four portions of Taco Bell’s “thick and tender” steak. OK. We’re with you…bigger, is usually better.

Fast forward to today. There is no longer any trace of the brand’s Quad Steak Burrito, but their website is now advertising a Triple Steak Burrito. Have they reverted back? Were consumers threatened by the amount of meat they originally tossed around?*

Photography is not a fair judge, but the above comparison actually pits the promotional photos for the two burritos against each other. The Triple Steak burrito looks many times larger and more appealing than its Quad Steak bastard brethren.

The Quad Steak Burrito is 40 calories lighter, 4 grams of fat and 6 grams of protein lighter than the new (?) Triple Steak Burrito. The question is, how come they’re downsizing their burritos? Do they not know how much meat people want? Maybe they do…maybe their research off the Quad Steak was that people didn’t want that much meat. 4-servings of steak is not as pleasant as three.

You know that theme song…from The Jeffersons…Movin’ on Down. Wait. That’s not how it goes, is it?

*Haha.
