Famed ‘Jiro Dreams of Sushi’ Chef Opening Los Angeles Location

Next year Angelenos will have the opportunity to try sushi from a restaurant famed for their Tokyo-style counter experience. What was once a little-known local gem grabbed the attention of the world thanks to a compelling 2011 documentary by David Gelb called ‘Jiro Dreams of Sushi’ on Netflix.

The documentary detailed the background, preparation and philosophy of 85-year-old sushi master Jiro, who faithfully ran his three-Michelin star restaurant Sushi Nakazawa. Since garnering worldwide acclaim, the restaurant has been taken over by his protégé Daisuke Nakazawa and expanded to locations in Washington DC and New York.

According to Eater Los Angeles, after a recent month-long engagement at the Peninsula Beverly Hills, a third Los Angeles Sushi Nakazawa location is planned for next year. The restaurant will straddle the borders of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood at 145 North Robertson Boulevard in the now-closed Cuvée space “bearing no unforeseen setbacks.”

Considered to be a premiere destination for a Tokyo-style sushi counter experience, patrons can expect menu prices to be around $180 per person, with 20 pieces of nigiri prepared in Nakazawa’s signature style which consists of seasoned rice, wasabi and dash of sweetish soy sauce. Sushi Nakazawa will also curate a sake program especially for the Los Angeles location.
