KFC Is Launching Its First-Ever Collectible Chicken Bucket
I’m starting to think movies are only greenlit based on how many different collectible food and beverage containers can be sold around them.
DC Studios’ Supergirl already has around a dozen known cups and buckets hitting theater chains alongside the film on June 26th, but Kentucky Fried Chicken wants a piece of that action for themselves.
Alongside their upcoming Supergirl Ultimate Meal, KFC is launching their first collectible chicken bucket. Per KFC, the non-microwave-safe bucket is perfect for both fried chicken and popcorn. Though the jury’s still out on whether this bucket would be a suitable vessel for their discontinued popcorn chicken.
The classic red-and-white KFC bucket has worn many hats beyond chicken delivery. KFC has transformed the iconic vessel into everything from a crossbody purse to the chandelier-style light fixtures hanging inside its restaurants. This latest version keeps the familiar look intact, though the lid introduces a new addition: Krypto the Superdog bursting through with canine enthusiasm.
KFC hasn’t shown up in any of the Supergirl trailers yet, though the collaboration raises the possibility that the fast food chain could make an appearance somewhere in the film.
KFC will begin serving the Supergirl Ultimate Meal on June 8, followed by the Krypto Collectible Bucket on June 10. Reports suggest stores will receive extremely limited quantities, and KFC has not announced any plans for a restock.
At $29.99, the bucket doesn’t come cheap, but that likely won’t slow demand. KFC collectors and DC superfans will probably want to move quickly on June 10 if they hope to secure the chain’s first co-branded entry into the collectible container game.
