Shake Shack made pimento cheese, then decided the pimentos had to go.

The chain’s new Clubhouse Pimento Cheese Burger and Chicken Sandwich swap traditional pimentos and mayonnaise for sharp cheddar mixed with chopped cherry peppers and ShackSauce. Both items cost $9.99 and land on menus as part of what CEO Rob Lynch calls a “12-to-18 month innovation calendar,” with longer lead times aimed at better execution.

The quarter-pound burger stacks the cherry pepper-cheddar spread with ShackSauce, lettuce, and tomato on a potato bun. The chicken sandwich follows the same playbook, pairing a breaded fried chicken breast with the spread, lettuce, pickles, and ShackSauce.

Shake Shack will run a BOGO deal from April 9–12 using code PIMENTO through its app, website, and kiosks. The chain also offers the spread as a $1.99 side, available only in restaurants.

“Pimento cheese is a deeply rooted Southern staple that deserves a spot on the national stage,” executive chef John Karangis said, though he didn’t explain why that meant removing the actual pimentos.

The launch marks Shake Shack’s first major menu innovation this year, following Korean-inspired chicken bites in January and the rollout of its “Good Fit Menu.” Past limited-time items like the French Onion Soup Burger showed fans that the brand isn’t afraid to get creative.
