IKEA’s New 20-Inch Hot Dog Is Already Being Measured Against A Legend

IKEA has quietly dropped a hot dog in the United Arab Emirates that feels less like a snack and more like a statement.

Dubbed the “half-meter hot dog,” the 20-inch frank is now being served at IKEA locations in the United Arab Emirates for roughly $5.17 USD. It’s oversized and already sparking chatter online for obvious reasons.

At that length and price point, comparisons were inevitable. It can certainly be clocked as a potential challenger to the legendary Costco $1.50 hot dog combo. While the economics aren’t exactly apples to apples, the energy is similar: big portion, low price, maximum cultural impact.

For now, the half-meter hot dog appears to be exclusive to the UAE, with no word on whether it’ll roll out globally. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that when a food item captures the internet’s attention, borders tend to blur fast.

If demand keeps up, don’t be surprised if this long dog starts making appearances beyond the Middle East, including a possible U.S. debut. Stranger things have happened in the food world.

Until then, consider this a reminder that IKEA never really left the food chat.
