Toronto Restaurant Thrives After Kendrick Lamar Mentions It In Drake Diss Track

Whether you’re a fan of Hip Hop or not, you’ve probably heard about the on-going beef between megastars Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

In Hip Hop this is the closest thing to a heavyweight fight. Hailing from Los Angeles, Kendrick has just scored a surprising, arguably significant, blow to Drake in his hometown of Toronto. There, a restaurant has unexpectedly become the talk of the town after receiving a surge of attention and good reviews following its mention in Kendrick Lamar’s diss track aimed at Drake, titled “Euphoria.”

In the song, Lamar adopts a Toronto accent and references the popular Chinese restaurant New Ho King, located on Spadina Avenue. He raps, “I be at New Ho King eatin’ fried rice with a dip sauce and a blammy, crodie.”

Local TV station CityNews went out to Toronto’s Chinatown neighborhood to talk to the owner, Johnny Lu, who is thankful for all the new recognition. Lu said that his phone has been blowing up since the song was released and the restaurant has received a huge influx of 5-star reviews. Lamar mentions the restaurant’s fried rice, which has inspired loads of fans to order it.

Though seemingly unintended, Lamar shouting out New Ho King has had a super positive impact on an owner and his small business.
