Walmart Planning To Open ‘Wonder’ Food Halls At Its Store Locations

Walmart has partnered with its former head of e-commerce Marc Lore to bring his restaurant concept, Wonder, to store locations. Wonder is a food hall concept that houses several restaurants, giving customers a wide selection of cuisines to choose from. According to Fortune, a pilot location was recently opened at one of Walmart’s supercenters and there are plans to open three more at other locations.

Marc Lore previously worked at Walmart for four years and before that, sold his last startup, Jet.com, to the retail giant for 3.3. billion. Some of the restaurants that Wonder includes belong to celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay or Marcus Samuelsson, while others are created by the brand itself.

Walmart’s first Wonder pilot test is located in Quakertown, PA., and is a 750-square-foot storefront that customers can find inside. There are eight cuisine options to choose from, like Tejas Barbecue, a Texas-based pulled pork and brisket sandwich restaurant, or a Mexican option called Limesalt that’s developed by Wonder’s own chefs.

There are two more Wonder storefronts scheduled to open in May, both located in New Jersey — one in Teterboro and the other in Ledgewood. A fourth location is currently being discussed as well.
