Chick-fil-A Opening Pop-Up Breakroom For NYC Food Delivery Workers

In an effort to support food delivery workers, Chick-fil-A has partnered with its New York restaurant operators to open The Brake Room, a limited-time pop-up that offers these workers time to rest, recharge, and escape the city’s wintery temperatures.

Shared in a press release, the move was inspired by NYC’s 65,000 food delivery workers, who toil across the bustling city to ensure orders arrive safely and on time.

A McKinsey & Company study reveals that food delivery has tripled since 2017. Chick-fil-A in particular experienced their highest rate of Manhattan-based deliveries during winter 2022. As a city where workers often use bicycles to deliver, The Brake Room will serve as a place to refresh between traveling miles to destinations.

“In metro areas like New York City, we see the same food delivery workers come through nearly every day of the week, several times a day, and how taking an extra second to warm-up between deliveries or offering a glass of water helps to fuel them on for their shift. The food delivery community helps to power our businesses, and this is just our small way of showing appreciation for all they do,” said Jared Caldwell, a Chick-fil-A restaurant Owner/Operator in New York City at 1536 3rd Avenue in the Upper East Side.

The Brake Room is located at 1477 Third Ave. (between E. 83rd St. and E. 84th St.) on the Upper East Side, and will be open from Feb. 16th through April 13th, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday. It’s a free space open to food delivery workers, all they need to do is show proof of delivery within the last week via an eligible app. The space will offer bathrooms, bike storage, outlets for phone chargers, comfortable seating, wi-fi, and beverages.
