Every Year Thousands of Baristas Compete to Make the Perfect Cup of Coffee, This is Their Story

From our grandfathers to our mothers to the cute barista that hands you your coffee every morning — everyone has their own opinion on what makes the perfect cup. Bring this concept to the competitive level and you’ll find an entire world dedicated to creating a single beverage that not only pushes the limits but inspires us.

In 2013, DRIP captured the stories of rising stars in the barista community as they prepared for the Regional, National and World Barista Championships. Each competitor was given 15 minutes to make 12 drinks. Think of it as the Olympics of Coffee.

“While this started as a journey for a love of coffee it soon became a fascinating story about the people who dedicate their lives to trying to please others sip by sip. From tiny coffee shops in alleys, to backroom latte competitions, to the grand stage at nationals, the coffee world is full of quirky, colorful personalities trying to push the limits of a single beverage,” the project explains.

It’s a story that will make “you want to laugh, cry, and most of all drink coffee.”
