Americans Eat 1.25 Billion Lbs of Chicken Wings & More Tailgating Numbers

Ah, tailgating. A time when it’s perfectly acceptable to eat a glorious amount of buffalo wings while doing keg stands and cheering your favorite team. There’s nothing like the camaraderie that happens around the grill, as the smell of burgers and ribs inevitably brings everyone closer together. However, all of this grubbing eventually adds up.

While we already knew cheering for the losing team causes you to drown your sorrows in deep-fried sadness, you may be surprised to find out that the average Amercian eats up to a day and a half’s worth of calories during the game alone. Or that in 2011, Americans chowed down on 11 million pounds of chips and 1.25 billion pounds of chicken wings.

It’s nice to see that when it comes to tailgating, fans are keeping it classic — no dainty cronuts here… for now. Check out the infographic from FoodyDirect below for the full breakdown of tailgating by the numbers.
