Potatoes Ain’t Got Nothing On This Glowing Orange Battery

Okay, so we all know by now that a certain beloved vegetable can power our clocks and malicious sentient supercomputers, as well as serve use in about a bazillion different recipes. So what’s fruit been up to? Oh, I don’t know, LOOKING AMAZING.

Using technology previously pioneered by potatoes, photographer Caleb Charland fashioned an orange battery as the subject for one of his shoots, crossing scientific ingenuity and artistic expression in this wonderfully crafted photograph. All it took to capture this gorgeous shot was some skewers to hold the individual wedges in place, copper wires, galvanized nails, and one LED light in the center of the orange. Oh, and a 14-hour exposure time due to the incredibly dim light emitted by the LED. Regardless, the results, as you can see, are quite illuminating.
