Food + Lab (West Hollywood, CA)

FOOD+LAB has been named “the best fashion caterer” by the New York Times, and the mother & son team responsible for the brand’s inception began by catering thousands of photo shoots, events and private parties. While in the area, we decided to swing around their West Hollywood location and check out what all the hype was about.

“Organic” is a term naive people like myself usually scoff at. I’ll be honest though, everything from the several sandwiches we ordered to the juices we drank, organic does have a level of of superiority in taste that makes you feel good during and after your eat-sesh. Call me a sucker, but everything was delicious.

Food+Lab prides themselves on using only organic, nitrate & hormone free ingredients wherever possible. They also tout their daily produce purchases, sourcing their meats and poultry with the utmost of care.

Get a load of Geoff’s cage-free egg salad sandwich with asparagus:

The pictures don’t give the sandwich-size justice, the loafs of bread they cut from are enormous. Just know these ain’t your normal five-inch long pieces of toast. Here’s a look at the day’s special, some sort of Caribbean Shrimp with mango and pineapple innards, an amazing split-dish with Geoff’s sandwich (yeah, we did that) —

You don’t go to a place that boasts how organic everything is without trying out their juice selection. Geoff went the safe, but ultimately delicious Raspberry Lemonade. The real winner for the afternoon was the Cucumber Lemonade. It really made my innards feel they were doing a song-and-dance number from a Disney movie, and was a great palette cleanser for the sandwiches. Pshhh, and you thought cucumbers were only eye-lid covers:
