Doritos UK Teases Controversial Square-Shaped Chip

Doritos UK is shaking up a social media bee’s nest with its latest announcement. The popular snack brand teased a square-shaped Dorito chip on its Instagram account with the caption “The Shape of Things To Come,” leaving followers to speculate. Suffice it to say, the response has been less than welcoming.

Fans wasted no time expressing disapproval over the supposed change. Comments ranged from “a Dorito without a triangle shape is no Dorito at all” to “bring back the old recipe before you did the bold crunch,” and even one-word exclamations like, “BOOOO!” One snack-spiracy theory is that Doritos UK is making the change to cover up the noticeable difference in quantity after reducing the bag size from 180 grams to 150 grams.

The Daily Mail reached out to the spokesperson for PepsiCo for more information, to which they replied, “The news isn’t ready to be shared quite yet, but great to know how much interest there is in the shape of our chips. As you’ve now seen, square Doritos are something we’re exploring and we’ll reveal more officially later this month.

PepsiCo kept the details under wraps, but did share a picture of the prototype side-by-side with the OG shape. There is slightly more surface space from the looks of it. Doritos have been triangle-shaped for 70 years. We’ll have to wait and see whether Doritos goes through with the swap or buckles to long-time fans.
