RIP Choco Taco, We Will Miss You Dearly

After nearly 40 years, Klondike has decided to discontinue the beloved Choco Taco, citing an unprecedented spike in demand for different Klondike products over the past two years. The space in my heart that Choco Taco occupies cries out, “That’s bullshit!”

The genius that is Alan Drazen first rolled out the Choco Taco in 1984, treating the masses to a waffle cone that served as a hard taco shell, which was then filled with chocolate fudge and vanilla ice cream and coated on top with more chocolate. It’s delighted millions since then, even partnering with Taco Bell for a time to feature the frozen treat at select locations to celebrate Klondike’s 100-year anniversary.

But now, we unexpectedly say goodbye to a sweet legend and farewell to an ice cream truck go-to.

Goddamit.

For now, I’ll still hold out hope for a comeback. Because if the people can bring Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza back, perhaps the Choco Taco can have the same fate in the future.
