A New Potato At Whole Foods Tastes Like Roast Chicken
There’s a new potato at Whole Foods that supposedly tastes like roast chicken. Yes, a potato. And apparently, we’ve been underestimating what these humble spuds are capable of.
Meet the Poulette Potato, a new variety from Row 7 Seed Company, developed by crossing French heirloom and New York potato varieties, with inspiration from French chef Michel Bras.
Row 7 describes the Poulette as savory, nutty, rich, and deeply roasted in flavor, with one chef reportedly comparing its taste to roast chicken. Which raises a very important question: Are we talking crispy chicken skin, juicy dark meat, or the whole Sunday roast situation? Because those are three very different expectations to put on a potato.
For now, the Poulette Potato is available at select Whole Foods Market locations in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. And considering the chicken comparison, I’m curious how much of that flavor comes through once you actually cook one.
