McDonald’s Is Taking A Viral Recovery Ritual To College Campuses
McDonald’s is coming to the rescue of college students recovering from Homecoming festivities, and its idea of emergency relief involves a giant dispenser full of gift cards. The Golden Arches is rolling out its new Fry Aid activation on October 17, giving students in three college towns a chance to score McDonald’s Arch Cards after what might’ve been a particularly eventful night.
The inspiration comes from a rather specific corner of the internet, where McDonald’s fries and a Diet Coke have become something of a post-night-out recovery ritual. Apparently, a carton of salty fries and a cold, aggressively carbonated Diet Coke are all some people need to feel human again. I’ve certainly heard worse ideas from people nursing a hangover.
Fry Aid will pop up in Atlanta, Ann Arbor, and Baton Rouge, three cities that know a thing or two about college football and the extracurricular activities that come with it. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 17, students can find the oversized dispensers at these locations:
- Ann Arbor: 812 Monroe St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104
- Atlanta: 170 Northside Dr. SW, Suite 96, Atlanta, GA 30313
- Baton Rouge: 120–124 W. Chimes St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802
For everyone outside those three cities, McDonald’s is extending a little fry-related generosity nationwide. Through the end of the year, customers can score free fries with any $1 purchase through the McDonald’s app.
I’m particularly amused that the internet managed to turn a McDonald’s order into a recovery protocol, complete with a branded first-aid concept. Somewhere along the way, fries and a Diet Coke went from a casual craving to something people swear by after a long night out. Now McDonald’s is leaning all the way into it, and honestly, I can’t even be mad at the logic.
If your Homecoming weekend leaves you feeling like you’ve been through twelve rounds, at least there’s a chance a carton of fries might be waiting at the end.
