Could Doritos Be Dropping A Lemon Pepper Flavor Soon?
Lemon Pepper Doritos might be hitting shelves soon, and as someone with an almost unreasonable love for lemon pepper wings, I have a vested interest in how this turns out. Especially since I still dream about another trip to Atlanta, the mecca of lemon pepper wet, where I fully intend to eat my weight in wings the next time I visit.
Food account @snackolator recently spotted the new flavor at the NACS Show, an annual convenience store industry trade show, sporting a bright yellow bag and a “Limited Time” label. While Doritos has yet to confirm an official release date, Snackolator suggests we could see the chips as early as January.
Now, I’m curious about how Doritos plans to translate lemon pepper into tortilla chip form. A proper lemon pepper wing has that citrusy zing, a generous hit of black pepper, and, if we’re talking lemon pepper wet, enough buttery goodness to make a stack of napkins feel like a reasonable precaution. Doritos certainly knows its way around seasoning, so there’s some real potential here.
Of course, the real test will come down to how well the lemon and pepper play together. Too much citrus and we’re approaching lemonade territory. Too little pepper and, well, what are we actually doing here? I’m hoping for something that captures the flavor combination’s savory side while giving that lemon enough room to do its thing.
For now, we’ll have to wait for Doritos to confirm when and where the limited-time flavor will be available. But if Lemon Pepper Doritos manage to scratch even a fraction of that lemon pepper wet itch, I might be able to postpone my next Atlanta trip.
Emphasis on might.
