Chipotle Is Turning One Of Its Biggest Fan Hacks Into A Real Menu Item
Chipotle fans have been hacking their bowls with seasoned chips for years. Now the restaurant is taking a cue from them with its own spin on the trend.
On August 31, Chipotle is introducing Chili Lime Chips, a new seasoned take on its tortilla chips inspired by a fan hack that’s taken off online. Some people use packaged seasoned chips instead of a fork to attack their bowls, others crush them on top for extra crunch, and the particularly committed unloaded their entire bowl into the bag for a makeshift walking taco.
Chipotle has apparently been paying attention. Since 2022, social mentions of seasoned chips paired with Chipotle entrées have increased more than 1,500%, while related TikTok and Instagram content has generated around 96 million engagements.
So rather than letting somebody else’s chip bag continue getting all the action, Chipotle made its own. The new Chili Lime Chips bring tangy, spiced seasoning to the chain’s familiar tortilla chips and contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
Rewards members get first dibs on August 31 through the Chipotle app and website before the chips become available to everyone on September 4.
They’re arriving alongside the return of Pollo Asado, which Chipotle has completely reworked with grilled adobo chicken, garlic, Mexican spices, cilantro and a citrus-lime finish. It’s the first time Chipotle has launched two limited-time menu items simultaneously.
Pollo Asado will be available beginning August 31, while Rewards members get early access to Chili Lime Chips the same day before they roll out to everyone on September 4.
