Burger King Japan’s ‘One Pounder Challenge’ Isn’t For The Faint Of Heart

Most all-you-can-eat deals aren’t built around a burger that weighs more than a pound.

Burger King Japan clearly didn’t get that memo.

From June 19 through June 26, the chain is bringing back its One Pounder Challenge at 80 locations across Japan, giving participants 45 minutes to eat as many Smoke House The One Pounder burgers as they can handle, plus unlimited fries and soft drinks.

The burger at the center of the challenge isn’t exactly light work. Each Smoke House The One Pounder weighs 545 grams (about 1.2 pounds) and stacks four beef patties with cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, and smoked bacon sauce. One burger alone packs 1,615 calories.

The challenge costs 4,900 yen (roughly $31). Considering a single Smoke House The One Pounder normally sells for 2,790 yen, participants only need to finish two burgers to come out ahead.

Some competitors have taken that idea much further.

During Burger King Japan’s spring One Pounder Challenge, one participant reportedly ate 11 burgers in 45 minutes. That’s nearly 13.2 pounds of burger before accounting for any fries or drinks.

For those feeling unusually confident in their appetite, Burger King Japan will host challenge sessions daily at 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. through June 26. Reservations are required, and all participants will receive a commemorative One Pounder Challenge 2026 T-shirt, towel, and sticker set.

The top three finishers from each session will also earn a spot in the One Pounder Challenge 2026 Finals scheduled for December.
