Burger King Doesn’t Think McDonald’s Commercial About Them is Very Cute

A few days ago, an unapproved, unreleased German McDonald’s ad surfaced to the cute moans of hundreds of thousands across the Internet. The cute ad featured a little boy getting his McDonald’s lunch jacked repeatedly by a group of older boys on the playground. That is until one day, the boy comes up with a clever idea to fend off the boys — by cloaking his “tasty” McDonald’s meal with a bag from rival burger chain Burger King.

The super cute commercial was sure to raise eyebrows, particularly from the Burger King team. Sure enough, the video caught the attention of the BK Lounge, and issued a statement in Munich discussing their disapproval of the campaign, as quoted by AdAge:

McDonald’s has broken the rules of comparative advertising by degrading the Burger King brand in the TV commercial ‘Packaging.’ McDonald’s and Burger King have agreed that [the spot’s] distribution and broadcast … will be stopped.”

AdAge’s coverage continues, mentioning that the McDonald’s ad, created by Tribal DDB and German shop Heye & Partners, had not yet been approved by McDonald’s. The initial upload to video-sharing site Vimeo has now been taken down, but is currently still available in the following YouTube port (no telling how long this will stay around):
