Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci Cooked For 100 Hours Straight, Setting New Guinness World Record

The world has a new marathon cooking holder and it goes to Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci. The 27-year-old creator first turned on her burners on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 4 p.m. E.T. and cooked nonstop for 100 hours, switching off her stove on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Baci was on a mission to beat the Guinness World Record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set in 2019 by Lata Tondon, to show how hardworking and driven Nigerians are.

“Even when it comes to the brands you want to work with, it’s like you have to go an extra mile to be taken seriously,” said Baci, adding that she hoped too that the world would learn more about Nigerian cuisines.

During Baci’s culinary marathon at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State, she cooked hundreds of meals including Jollof Rice and Akara, a popular golden fritter street food made from a seasoned batter of blended black-eyed peas.

Baci only had five-minute breaks every hour or an accumulated one hour after a stretch of 12 hours for everything else, from bathing to medical checkups and resting, according to the Associated Press.

Through Baci’s cooking dedication, she was surrounded by her fellow Nigerians (and the whole world), celebrities, government officials like governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and all else who cheered her on as she pushing through 100 hours.

Cheers to you Hilda for putting Nigeria in the Guinness World Record book!
