Wendy’s to Launch Limited-Time Ciabatta Bacon Cheeseburger in February

Move over brioche. It looks like ciabatta’s the new bad bread on the block.

Beginning in February, Wendy’s will launch a new limited-time Ciabatta Bacon Cheeseburger, featuring a quarter-pound beef patty, oven-roasted chopped tomatoes, rosemary-garlic aioli, spring mix, Asiago cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, and of course, its toasted namesake.

Now I don’t know about you, but ciabatta was always a little too dry/crusty for my taste, let alone fast food ciabatta. Ah well, nothing a good Frosty can’t fix, right?

      The idea of the burger was to make more money by offering customers a ‘premium’ burger at non-premium prices. They were trying to sway folks away from the dollar menu and get them to buy something a little pricier than the dollar menu items, but not QUITE as expensive as their premium burgers. Well instead of swaying dollar menu customers UP to the “W”, it sent all of the regular premium buyers DOWN and they were no longer buying the higher-priced burgers.

      Well duh. What did they THINK would happen? If I can get a big juicy burger for $2.99 as opposed to 3 or 4 bucks for a premium, I’m not stupid, I’m gonna take the one that’s $2.99.

      So what they were thinking is beyond me.
