Buzzkill: Powdered Alcohol Loses Government Approval

Yesterday, we got word that the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved Palcohol, a brand of powdered alcohol. However, AP reports that a rep for the Bureau stated in an email that "the approvals were issued in error."

This is why we can't have nice things, America.

Palcohol attempts to clarify the mishap on their site:

We have been in touch with the TTB and there seemed to be a discrepancy on our fill level, how much powder is in the bag. There was a mutual agreement for us to surrender the labels.

This doesn't mean that Palcohol isn't approved. It just means that these labels aren't approved. We will re-submit labels. We don't have an expected approval date as label approval can vary widely.

The boozy powder garnered harsh critique after the brand cheekily acknowledged that while snorting Palcohol was possible, they didn't recommend it. They've since put up a new version on their site that claims the past description was a result of experimenting "with some humorous and edgy verbiage about Palcohol. It was not meant to be our final presentation of Palcohol."

That'll do pig. That'll do.
